An important concept - Regenerative Finance (ReFi)
There are very few investors I trust as much as I trust Fred Wilson. Fred has been a long time friend and a regular at my previous event LeWeb where he was sharing his insights about the future trends in tech in front of thousands of tech entrepreneurs. Here is a video of us in 2014 at LeWeb (oh my… I was overweight, too much wine and french food!).
Fred just posted about Regenerative Finance (ReFi) and he brings very important points:
The web3 sector has directed tens of billions of $ if not more in the previous decade
Most of the funding has come from individuals, not institutions
We turn our attention currently toward climate and the existential threat of a warming planet
“these ideas are top of my attention” says Fred
ReFi is an idea, like Defi, based on a set of web3 technologies and economics that suggests that efforts to combat climate change can and will be funded by the crowd
Fred then gives two examples:
ReFi DAO unlocking Marine Biodiversity and Blue Carbon “Gordon and Courtney built the New Atlantis DAO to create open public datasets about the evolving ocean climate and funding mechanisms to support work that moves the data in the right direction.”
Toucan.earth unlocking the potential of programmable carbon to Web3. It tokenizes carbon credits so that many environmental projects can benefit and it brings transparency in the carbon ecosystem. If I read well the token has crashed strong though, like many other coins. I will keep the project as something to look at anyway.
After doing some research I found many more Web3 projects helping the planet, I am really excited.
Upcoming:
